FACTORIAL RANDOMIZED TRIAL

✓
The aim of our proposed trial is to see if rehabilitation strategies of structured physical activity training and brief cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and selfmanagement reduces the risk of repeat hospitalisation and deaths in HF patients in India.
✓
The study is being carried out in six hospitals with facilities for management of heart failure.
✓
The study is an investigator-initiated, factorial, multicentre, randomised controlled trial. Physician diagnosed HF patients are being recruited and randomised to either a structured physical activity-training programme or usual rehabilitation care, and to either a structured brief cognitive behavioural therapy session or usual care
✓
Time to mortality will be the primary outcome for the proposed study

Study Design

Mobirise

Physical activity based cardiac rehabilitation

Being physically active helps to feel better, decrease symptoms and improves the heart's function. Evidence shows that regular exercise programs improve heart function and reduce symptoms. Overall, higher activity levels improve quality of life. In order to induce a positive impact on the overall health, exercise must be a regular part of the life. Being fit will help patients to perform daily activities in a better way.

Physical activity includes exercise as well as other activities related to work, transport, leisure time activities and household chores. Popular ways to be active include walking, sports, and active recreation and play, and can be done at any level of skill and for enjoyment by everybody. Leisure time activity refers to all the behavior connected with physical activity that people engage in their freely disposable time.

What is CBT

A skill-based intervention specially designed to help heart failure patients to acquire skills and strategies to address the physical and emotional difficulties related to heart failure. Behaviour therapy (BT) is a treatment for depression/sadness. BT is a treatment in which we will learn how our thoughts (C) and behaviour (B) influence the way we feel (emotions).

This is an intervention specifically designed to help heart failure patients acquire skills and strategies to address the physical and emotional problems that often arise in the presence of a medical illness.
